This weekend we came very close to adding another puppy to our family, but we realized we weren’t quite ready for it.
This experience reminded me of the most important rule of achieving ripped abs…
The one rule that finally put an end to my yo-yo diet struggles… to uncover my shredded abs permanently.
The thing is… we really wanted a new puppy and we thought it would be a great companion for Chief, our two year old Shepherd-Collie.
So, we spent the week doing some research on what type of dog would be the best match for Chief and our family. Things were getting very exciting…
…and then we came across some 8 week old Shepherd-Husky puppies that would be the perfect fit for our family. We brought the kids to visit the pups and get a feel for each of their personalities. Needless to say, we fell in love with a few of them.
…But, we didn’t make any rash decisions. We came home, talked it over, slept on it, then talked it over again.
As excited as we were and as bad as we wanted a new puppy, something just wasn’t feeling right.
Getting a new puppy requires consistent training in order to develop positive behaviors and habits. It demands a lot of discipline and is a great deal of work.
The more we thought about this, the more we realized the timing just wasn’t right. Angie is busy taking an 8 month course and I have a lot going on with my fitness business, which has been extra demanding on my time lately.
This is fine for Chief… he still gets two walks a day and loads of attention. But a puppy requires much more attention. I work from home and at the moment I’m not prepared for the constant interruptions for potty breaks. The thought of interrupted sleep wasn’t sitting too well with Angie and I either.
So although we thought we were ready for a puppy, we weren’t ready to fully commit ourselves to the consistent discipline and hard work it was going to take to raise a puppy.
This was much different than the experience we had with adopting Chief. We knew in an instant we were ready for him. The timing was right and we were ready and willing to do whatever it took to raise a healthy and happy dog.
Interrupted sleep didn’t bother us at that time. We committed ourselves to consistent training. We took him to doggy school and taught him a great number of tricks at home on our own.
We made a lot of sacrifices, yet it seemed effortless… and because of the rewards we got in return, it didn’t feel like we were sacrificing anything at all.
This puppy experience reminded me a great deal of my experience with getting ripped abs.
In my early 30’s I really wanted to get ripped abs. I knew what I needed to do… I had the plan… but I couldn’t consistently stick to the plan and follow through to the end.
Bottom line… I was ready to get ripped, but I wasn’t ready for the commitment, consistency, hard work, and discipline it was going to take to achieve a ripped physique.
Then, one day I woke up… said, “Enough is enough”, refused to settle for mediocrity, and finally made the decision to fully commit myself to getting ripped abs for my 36th Birthday.
The decision and transition happened in an instant and I’ve never looked back ever since.
The timing just felt right.
It’s not that my life was necessarily any less hectic… I simply felt mentally and physically prepared for the challenge ahead of me.
From that moment on, it was simply a matter of executing the plan.
You’ve probably heard fitness experts say, “There’s no better time than NOW” in reference to taking action toward your physique goals. I don’t fully agree with this statement.
Although I’m all for taking immediate action toward your goals… Now may not be the best time to go after your goal of achieving ripped abs.
Life may be a bit too hectic for you right now. Your mindset may not be in the best place for a serious commitment toward your physique goals.
But just because it may not be the BEST time to pursue your BIG goal doesn’t mean you should put things off. It just means that you need to evaluate your situation and set intermediate goals based on your current conditions.
I wish I had learned this lesson in my early 30’s. After several failed attempts to get ripped abs, I began to think there was something wrong with me. I began to question the effectiveness of my plan.
Truth is… there wasn’t anything wrong with me or the plan. The timing just wasn’t right for me. I wasn’t in the best head-space for a serious commitment.
Instead of recognizing this… and excepting it… I continued to beat my head off the wall and try to force something that just wasn’t meant to be at the time.
Mind you… each of these experiences have made me who I am today… and thank goodness I didn’t completely give up and throw in the towel.
So… if you’re in the same frustrating place as I was once in… take the time to evaluate your situation and set a goal timeline that best suits your current lifestyle.
Getting ripped abs requires a great deal of hard work and dedication. Simply stating that you are ready to get ripped abs is not enough. You need to be ready to follow through with the commitment that’s required to achieve your goal.
You need to be ready and willing to do whatever it takes to finally uncover your shredded abs. That’s the #1 Rule for success.
You need to embrace the process more than the outcome itself.
If you are indeed ready to take that step and fully commit… I’d love to see the results you achieve while following the Elite Physique system… the same system I used to destroy that last bit of stubborn fat and finally uncover my shredded abs.
If you are not fully ready to commit to getting shredded, but still want to shape and sculpt your body with one of the best training programs out there, I’m certain you will love the powerful $7 system… Physique Phreak.
There are plenty of options available to you… just be certain that the action you are taking is in alignment with your goals, personality, and lifestyle.
Compare this to our puppy analogy…
It may not be the best timing for our family to get a puppy… but right now we are doing what we can and taking the necessary steps to prepare ourselves for when that time comes… and we can’t wait for that moment.
I hope this puppy analogy along with my personal experiences, shed some light on the body sculpting process.
