I shared this high carb late night cheat meal experience on Facebook the other day and it resonated with a lot of people… Does it resonate with you?
I pigged out a bit on evil carbz last night. Corn Pops boxed cereal, cookies, and some Goldfish crackers.
…it wasn’t strategic… I didn’t magically wake up 10lbs lighter… I’m not going to skip any meals today…
…it just is what it is. I was hungry, so I ate what I felt like eating.
…I didn’t feel guilty, nor was I thinking about how I would compensate for it today.
…I simply enjoyed the moment… and realized why kids like Goldfish crackers so much 😉
Why do you think this experience resonated so much with so many people?
My theory… in a world where we over-complicate and over-analyze diet… it’s refreshing to see the simplicity of it all.
The BIG take-away… Awareness!
Awareness prior to consuming the evil carbz
…Awareness while consuming the evil carbz
…Awareness after consuming the evil carbz.
Bottom line… I was listening to my body… becoming present in the moment… and fully understanding why I was experiencing these ‘cravings’.
Basically… after 4 days of operating in a deficit with fairly low-moderate carbs (approx 150g/day) and training intensely during those days… my body was feeling depleted… it needed more fuel in the tank.
This ‘signal’ is clearly different from a craving for a candy bar…
…It’s a combination of your body and mind beginning to feel the fatigue of the fat loss process.
You could call it strategic in a sense… because it was an optimal time to bump up my carb intake… much like I do when I follow a structured carb cycling plan.
…but I didn’t strategically plan this high carb ‘cheat meal’.
…It just happened. I simply listened to the signals my body was sending me.
I didn’t need to take a magic supplement prior to consuming the evil carbz…
I wasn’t concerned about High Fructose Corn Syrup, GMO’s, or anything else.
My concern… enjoy the treat and continue on with life.
The next day I was right back to consuming healthy natural foods… without batting an eye.
That 30 minute experience of consuming evil carbz is a simple blip on the radar when you look at the week as a whole.
And just to be clear… this wasn’t an all out binge. I don’t agree with planned binging as a diet approach. I think it’s unhealthy and sets up bad habits.
In fact, even with this bit of a ‘pig out’ I still only consumed up to my maintenance caloric intake.
Awareness strikes again!
…I was listening to my body. I knew it needed to fuel up… but overfilling the gas tank would be pointless. I gave it what it needed… nothing more, nothing less.
Simple and sane… that’s what it is.
Structure is great. I thrive off of structure… but it doesn’t have to be so rigid and set in stone. Sometimes you just need to learn to listen to your body in spite of what the plan has set for you today.
I hope you found some value in this share.
…and I hope you realize how silly it was for me to write ‘EVIL CARBZ’ so many times 😉
Embrace the glorious carb.
