I have been focusing mostly on Front Squats for the past few months and it felt great to bust out some Back Squats. 365 lbs was a personal best for me while using the resistance bands.
In the first exercise where the bands are looped around the top bars in the squat rack, you get a little bit of assistance in the bottom quarter of the movement. The top three quarters of the movement you are lifting the full weight of the bar. I would never think of squatting 365 lbs without the bands simply because I know that I would get stuck at the bottom. So, what happens is you end up selecting a weight that you can lift during the weakest portion of the movement.
By using the bands you get to increase the load throughout most of the movement while gaining a bit of support during the weakest portion, allowing you to work in the full range of motion. This is an absolute shock to your muscle.
The second exercise is the Box Squat with a lighter resistance band looped through the bottom of the squat rack. This makes the movement more challenging at the top part of the squat. That brief little pause at the bottom causes you to stop all momentum and drive up with your legs. It’s wickedly awesome!!!
I only perform this type of training once in a while to help me blast through plateaus. It’s not something that you would want to do too frequently. I’m thinking about repeating it for one more week before getting back to the Metabolic Masterpiece Body Sculpting Program.
If you are stuck at a plateau, I highly recommend that you incorporate bands or chains into your workouts every so often.
