Episode 10 of the Physique Frontier podcast features guest expert Meg Brown, leader of the Weight Loss Rebels.
This is a high energy, empowering, and VERY transparent discussion about what it really takes to sculpt the physique YOU desire… based on YOUR standards and YOUR lifestyle.
This has been a theme in recent weeks… as I’ve been receiving requests from my fellow Physique Artists… seeking honesty in the face of an industry that’s been riddled with hype, false claims, misleading advice, and a lack of integrity.
I believe we have reached a turning point… an era where transparency and truth will give rise to self-EMPOWERMENT.
…and this is what the Physique Frontier podcast is really about!
We’re in this journey together. I have just as much to learn from you and your experiences as you do mine. Today… I learned from Meg’s experiences. She gave me food for thought… causing pause and reflection toward my role as a leader in the fitness industry.
Meg began her transformation journey in 2010 after giving birth to her son. After accepting a challenge from her trainer… she took the leap of faith and prepped for a bikini competition with the WBFF.
It was VERY interesting to hear how Meg’s competition experience differed from mine. What she reveals may surprise you… yet at the same time… it may liberate you.
Here are a few of the topics Meg and I covered in our discussion…
Personal Responsibility
When you know better you do better… You Take the control back.
This was a great discussion about a line you often read on weight loss websites across the Internet… “It’s not your fault.”
Set Your Own Standards
My standards may differ from yours… but it doesn’t mean they are any better than yours.
I thrive with six pack abs. When I look my best, I feel my best. My confidence is high… my energy is vibrant… I’m able to give the absolute best of myself to others.
…But that’s ME.
YOU, may experience something similar… or you may have no desire to get ripped abs. You may just want a flat stomach, great health, and the strength to perform your best in the gym.
My passion is helping men and women unleash the best within themselves… to strive for their true potential… refusing to settle for the ‘norm’… or ‘average’.
…However, it’s important to realize that six pack abs do not define your true potential… YOU define your true potential… YOU define your standards… and it’s important that you stay true to yourself… allow your uniqueness to shine bright.
Know what you want… and know why you want it!
I know I want six pack abs and more muscle… I know I love training for aesthetics, because I see the beauty in my physique as a work of art… and I have a deep fascination with my ability to transform it. I know I want to achieve these goals because through the process I discover a great deal about myself.
It’s not the six pack abs that define who I am… it’s what I learn about myself in the process… and how I can take what I learn from my personal journey and use it to help make a positive impact on every life I touch.
Project Pin-up
Meg has a photo shoot booked soon… but the outcome is going to be different from what it was initially intended to be…
…and in my most humble opinion… I believe the result of Meg’s photo shoot will EMPOWER more women this way… rather than the way it was originally planned.
This was a very, very powerful share.
Nutrition Perfection
This is where we really need to see more transparency in the fitness industry. With all the misguided nonsense about the “5 WORST foods you MUST avoid at all costs”… it’s important to realize that you can indeed achieve a stunning physique while enjoying your favorite foods… even if they happen to be on this evil food list.
Angie has proven it with her dessert diet… Meg has proven it with her nutrition lifestyle at Weight Loss Rebels… I set out from the very beginning of my transformation 3 years ago to prove you can get ripped and still enjoy your treats.
Right now, in the MM Inner Circle, several of our fellow Physique Artists are making fantastic progress without striving for perfection with their diets.
Snapshot In Time
This was a fantastic discussion about how much of what you see on the Internet… whether it’s photo’s of what people eat… a physique competition they just participated in… or a photo shoot to showcase their results… it’s all just a snapshot in time.
How I looked on the stage was just one day of my life. I was never that ripped before… and I haven’t been that ripped since. It probably wouldn’t be very healthy for me to maintain that low level of body fat.
The photo shoots I took part in were simply a moment in time as well. They were a way to capture the progress I’ve made… and you can see that with each photo shoot I was able to push the envelop with my level of leanness… and each photo shoot captured the muscle I had gained between photo shoots.
…but what you don’t see is how I look during the 6-12 months between photo shoots. Of course it’s not bad… it’s actually pretty darn good… but in the process of gaining muscle, I also gain a bit of fat, which actually places me at a nice, maintainable and healthy body fat percentage.
Honesty is Not Weakness
…it doesn’t show weakness to be honest… no one expects you to be on point 100% of the time. Stop trying to attain perfection. No one’s diet is 100% all of the time.
Honesty and transparency is refreshing.
An Evolutionary Process
Lately I have been talking about how my personal nutrition and fitness philosophies are a combination of a variety of practices I’ve followed over the years. I’ve discussed the importance of an open mind.
Through your experiences and through the new things you learn… your philosophies will evolve… and that’s GREAT!
If you are dogmatic in your approach and philosophies you can paint yourself into a corner… and down the road you may be forced to maintain something that you may not believe anymore because you’ll look like a hypocrite.
Do not get stuck with principles that don’t serve you any more… You need to be able to change.
Meg closed off the conversation with a powerful message to our fellow fitness professionals…
“Not everybody wants or needs the same thing… It’s not your job to cram your beliefs down their throat… It’s your job to let them function to the best of their ability… within the parameters that they have… It’s about them…. not you!”
I love that!
I had a blast talking with Meg and I hope you gain just as much out of this conversation as I did.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on the topics we covered.
