A strong, powerful, and defined back is a big part of sculpting an impressive physique. I think that it’s cool when I see guys that have such think and defined back muscles that they pop right through their t-shirts.
One of the problems that we are faced with as physique artists, is that we can’t see our back muscles while we are training them. We need to take a photograph of ourselves in order to receive an indication of our progress. It’s much easier to step in front of a mirror and see progress with your abs for example.
I haven’t really been paying much attention to how my back muscles and definition have been progressing lately, but something happened in the gym today that sparked my desire to check myself out in the mirror…
The wide grip pulldown machine is a few feet in front of the cardio area in my gym. After doing a few sets of pulldowns I had people get off the treadmills from the back row (about 20 feet away) and tell me that they were really impressed with the definition in my upper back and rear delts. They said that they could see my muscles popping out from way back there.
I guess that’s a good indicator of my progress ๐ The great thing is that this was the second time in just 2 weeks that I’ve heard this kind of feedback and it’s motivated the heck out of me!
…Which brings up a great point. If you see someone who is really progressing in your gym and you notice their muscle popping out while they are working out, don’t be afraid to approach them and let them know that you are impressed. It can really impact them, as it totally impacted me today.
As you may recall from a previous post “This Is What I’m Talking About“, Tom Venuto gave me the nickname Scott “Anatomy Chart” Tousignant after seeing pictures in my progress journal within his Burn The Fat Inner Circle. I’m still trying to live up to that name and I see that I’m getting closer and closer. Here’s a picture that I took of my back and shoulder muscles today…
One piece of inspiration that I’ve been using to live up to the nickname “Anatomy Chart” is a photo taken by “The King Of Covers” Jason Ellis of WBFF World Champion and creator of Accelerate Your Fat Loss, Obi Obadike…
As you can see, Obi’s physique definitely is an “Anatomy Chart”. My goal is to have a back that looks very similar to this when I do my photo shoot on September 25th. I’ll be looking at this picture for continuous motivation and checking myself out a lot more.
So the lesson for today is to pay attention to your back muscles ๐ I hope that Obi’s photo inspires you as well.
I’ll share some pictures later next week of my back while I’m training. It’s killing me that I don’t know what others are seeing while I’m working out ๐
Sculpt a Masterpiece,
Scott Tousignant
