It’s Monday, Jan 5 2015 and I am totally stoked to kick off the New Year. It’s a big one for me. I’ll be turning 40, which is an important milestone that I’m really excited about. Also, my son will be going to high school in the fall, which really puts things into perspective. Time is flying by and now more than ever, I’ll be cherishing my time with my kids.
Normally at this time of year I set some very BIG, specific and measurable goals, but this year I don’t really feel like it. Here’s what I’m doing instead…
I’m going to focus on making the absolute most out of every moment of every day. Giving the very best of myself to everything I do, whether it’s training, nutrition, family time, business, etc. I’ll be focusing on the things that matter the most to me, while reducing distractions.
I believe that by focusing on giving the best of myself each and every day… the big goals take care of themselves.
Physique Goals
As always, I’ll be Improving my overall physique to the best of my ability. But this year I’m going to give some extra special attention and focus toward building up my chest and calves, so they will be receiving some specialized attention in my physique training program design.
I’m starting the year in a cutting phase. I gained 3 pounds during the holidays, putting me back up to 156lbs. So the first goal is to burn that off and then take it to the next level and get shredded. I’m looking at 6-8 weeks, then I’ll shift into lean gains mode.
Will I compete? I’m not sure. Only if I get super excited about stepping on stage again.
Will I do a photo shoot? Definitely! For the past couple years I’ve really been looking forward to doing a photo shoot around my 40th birthday to capture my physique as a work of art and compare to past photo shoots, what I looked like at 30, and I can’t wait to compare it to what I look like at 50, with ten more years of training experience behind me.
I’ve mentioned that I want to get a DEXA scan and this will DEFINITELY happen at the end of this cutting phase.
When I go into my lean gains phase I’ll be testing my limits with training volume. I feel like I’ve come nowhere near over-training. I know that I have a helluva lot more in me to give.
I will continue to enhance my mind-muscle connection to steer my neural drive toward the target muscles.
Sleep is an area that I want to improve this year as well. For the past few months my sleep has sucked. I’ve already made big improvements during the past 10 days by;
a) cutting back on coffee. I was having 3 cups first thing in the morning and sometimes 1 in the afternoon. Now I’m down to just 1 cup first thing in the morning.
b) in the evening I’ve been writing out my to-do list for the next day, and breaking it down to the top 3 things that MUST get done tomorrow. This has helped me stay focused, avoid distractions, and prevents overwhelm.
c) turn off electronics well before bed time and snuggle up with a good book. I didn’t read many physical books last year… and this year I’m going to change that in a big way.
Business Goals
Help a shit load of men and women unleash their greatness, sculpting their body into a work of art, while living life to the absolute fullest. I’ll be doing this through the Aesthetic Muscle Plan, 1-on-1 online coaching, 1-on-1 personal training, YouTube, this blog, Facebook, and the Modern Musclehead Podcast
I’m more fired up than ever to really putting myself out there and sharing my experiences with you. I’ll be recording more videos than ever and sharing some of my deeper thoughts on the transformation process and this physique artist lifestyle.
Family Goals
Soak up every moment I have with my wife and kids. Giving them my complete focused attention and every ounce of love I’ve got.
I sincerely appreciate you sharing this journey with me. We’re in it together. I couldn’t do it without you.
I’d love to hear about your goals for 2015. Let me know how I can best serve and support you throughout the process.
