To celebrate my 42nd birthday today, I thought you’d enjoy getting to know a little bit more about me other than the fact that I’m a lightweight bodybuilder who spends more time with his shirt off than on and who loves little more than the feeling of cold iron in his hands and warm blood pumping through his veins.
1) I cry during movies.
2) I’ve never been on a train.
3) I used to be repulsed by the idea of sushi and now it’s my favourite food. Still refuse to eat lobster, crab, and shrip though.
4) 90% of the time you’ll hear me listening to 90’s rap or 90’s grunge.
5) As much as I appreciated Arnold Schwarzenegger, it was Jean Claude Van Damme’s physique that inspired me the most as a teen. His posters were plastered in the workout room in my parents basement.
6) My favourite animal is a fox. The Disney movie The Fox and the Hound is what started it all.
7) I can’t stand Tim Horton’s coffee. But when they launch their Roll Up The Rim To Win campaign every year, I somehow find myself in there multiple times a week.
8) I had a double hernia operation when I was 18 months old.
9) One time when I missed my connecting flight I fell asleep at the airport and farted so loud it woke me up.
10) If I ever experience stress in my life I guarantee I’ll have a dream about either not being able to find my locker in high school or arriving at a final exam in University while realizing that I never attended a class, handed in an assignment or studied.
11) I prefer wilderness vacations over tropical vacations.
12) I’m physically repulsed by negativity. I feel it in my bones when a negative person enters the room. I have to walk away.
13) I can’t stand when I see people post FML on their Facebook timelines. Nothing else… just FML. WTF???? You attention seeking whore.
14) The only time I ever threw up during a night of drinking was a result of waaaaaay to many shots of tequila. Now just the thought of it makes me feel queasy. I can’t even smell it.
15) I have a fear of heights and needles. Although I’m getting much better. When I gave blood this year it was the first time I never passed out. I was laying down and sweating… came damn close to passing out, but didn’t. My neighbours always get a kick out of seeing me up on the roof hanging Christmas lights. I used to be terrified, but this past year felt easier.
16) I LOVE everything Winnie the Pooh. I could watch the Great Adventures Of Winnie the Pooh over and over again. So many life lessons from that chubby little bear all stuffed with fluff. The Tao of Pooh is also one of my favourite books and I also enjoyed Winnie The Pooh on Success, Winnie The Pooh on Management, and Winnie The Pooh on Problem Solving.
I have several framed pictures of Winnie the Pooh characters on my wall with quotes from the books and movies.
I’d say I’m a perfect combination of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. Simple and happy-go-lucky ๐
17) My favourite Christmas song is the 12 days of Christmas by Bog and Doug Mckenzie. Ya, I’m Canadian eh?
18) I’ve thought about getting a tattoo countless times, but I’m so vain that I haven’t gone through with it because I’m afraid my striations won’t be as visible.
19) I’m a homebody.
20) I wish I had better fashion sense.
21) My first car was a ’93 Eagle Talon. I worked 3 jobs and gave up alcohol to save up enough money for it… all while in University. It’s still my favourite car I’ve ever owned.
22) My wife was the first person I met when I walked into Chrysler as a Temporary Part Time worker during my University years. I immediately knew there was something special about her. 2 years later we started dating. 1 year later we were engaged. 1 year later we were married. 1 year later we were expecting our first child.
23) Some women on the line at Chrysler would pay me to moon them ๐
24) I clearly remember picking out my very first lunchbox for kindergarten. It had the Dukes Of Hazzard On it.
25) I’m quiet and observant. I’m not a man’s man or life of the party.
26) I started losing my hair around the age of 17. I was VERY self conscious about it. Wish I would have started shaving my head right then and there. Waited until I was in my mid 20’s.
27) If there was a cure for baldness I’d probably stay bald. It’s who I am and I love it.
28) I had a crush on Alyssa Milano when I was 10 years old. Still think she’s hot ๐
29) When someone can’t find something in my house I go into full out challenge mode and make it my mission to find it before anyone else. (Ya, I’m just a bit competitive).
30) Since I began training with my workout partner Rick over 6 years ago, there hasn’t been a single day where I haven’t looked forward to working out.
31) Mary Ann.
32) Teenage years could be summed up in two letters. P.E. (Phys Ed and Public Enemy).
33) I wasn’t a rebellious teenager. Most rebellious thing I probably did was buy the 2 Live Crew cassette against my parents will.
34) I still have a lot of the mix tapes I made.
35) I love to read, but I can’t stand fiction novels.
36) I took a year off between high school and university to ‘find myself’. One of the best things I’ve done for myself.
37) Went to Cancun for Spring Break and there is no way in hell I’ll let my kids go do the same.
38) First concert I ever went to was Bryan Adams Reckless on my 10th birthday.
39) I can’t watch horror movies anymore… even though every Saturday and Sunday as a kid I would watch the Thriller Double Features with my mom.
40) I believe we’re all connected.
41) I know I’m on the right path.
42) I’m the luckiest guy in the world.
Thanks for reading and for sharing this journey with me.
