Flexible Deadlines For Fat Loss and Muscle Building Goals

By Scott Tousignant on September 29, 2016

fat loss goal deadlines

Focusing on your day to day tasks and allowing the end goal to take care of itself
is a way more productive use of your thought energy.

In this episode of the Physique Mastery Podcast coaches Bryan Krahn and Scott Tousignant discus why it’s important to set deadlines for your fat loss and muscle building goals that are flexible and take into account life events, plateaus, and setbacks.

Even when assuming you are following your fat loss or muscle building plan to a “T”, rarely does your body respond the way you think it will.

Your body is not a math equation. What looks good on paper doesn’t always pan out in the trenches. More times than not, you’re going to need to call an audible and make an adjustment on the fly.

Physique Mastery Podcast: Are Higher Reps Better For Fat Loss?

By Scott Tousignant on September 19, 2016

fat loss reps

Recently a question was posted in the Physique Mastery Movement group coaching support community from Adam Wilks in regards to an ideal rep range for fat loss.

Adam asked, “I’m in a deficit and essentially depleting for competition. Should I even be working in a 6-7 rep range for strength building? Shouldn’t I be looking to stay in the 10-15 rep range to continue to burn fat and chase that pump?”

Adam is certainly not alone in this thought process. So in this episode of the Physique Mastery Podcast coaches Bryan Krahn and Scott Tousignant address this question in hopes of clearing any confusion on the topic of high reps for fat loss.

Physique Mastery Podcast: Intuitive Training

By Scott Tousignant on September 11, 2016

intuitive training

Progression doesn’t have to be measured in numbers. For the mature and experienced lifter, improving rep quality is the ultimate form of progression. That’s Physique Mastery!

An important discussion was sparked by an experience Carey Pierce shared in the Physique Mastery Movement support community today.

For the first time as a coach I decided to program RPE progressions into my training plans. The first week is set at 80% RPE, where you’ll be leaving a couple reps in the tank. It provides you with the opportunity to get comfortable with the training techniques and find a weight that allows you to execute quality reps. In the following weeks the RPE goes up.

Today, Carey was stoked to hit the gym and bump up the weight. She felt great and was ready to kick some ass. But as soon as the workout began she noticed that she didn’t quite have the strength she was expecting to have.

Afterward she felt bummed out that her body wasn’t cooperating. Hearing this bummed Bryan and I out. That’s not what this experience is supposed to be like at all. So we dedicated this episode of the Physique Mastery Podcast to the important differences between intuitive training vs chasing numbers.
