I have a love-hate relationship with high rep leg workouts.
I love them, because they are easy on my joints and the pump is absolutely sick!
I hate them, because they are crazy freak’n hard!
They challenge my limits and force me to step outside of my comfort zone. Pushing beyond the ‘pain’ barrier. Working through the burning sensation while giving it everything I’ve got.
Only to stand up with your legs feeling like Jell-o. Like they’re going to buckle from underneath you and cause you to face plant.
Oh, who am I kidding. I love all that too! But I am a bit sadistic when it comes to building my physique in the gym 😉
To give you an example, here’s the high rep leg workout we performed during a recent 4 week training block;
A1 Squat 20 reps
A2 Sissy Squat 15 reps
B1 Hack Squat Sissy Squat 20 reps
C1 Leg Extension 10-12 reps
C2 Leg Curl 8-10 reps
D1 Walking Lunges 16 steps each leg
E1 T-Bar Romanian Deadlift 12-15 reps
* 3 sets for each exercise.
Here it is in action…
This workout is part of an Upper/Lower – Push/Pull/Leg split routine that has you training each muscle two times per week.
Here’s what the split looks like;
Monday: Upper Body strength focused workout
Tuesday: Lower Body strength focused workout
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Push hypertrophy focused workout
Friday: Pull hypertrophy focused workout
Saturday: Leg hypertrophy focused workout
Sunday: Off
I really enjoy splitting up the heavier strength focused workouts from the moderate to higher rep hypertrophy focused workouts.
It’s easier to wrap your head around a workout where you know you’re either going to lift some heavy shit… or go for a crazy ass pump!
